WE Managing Partner Michael Zeuner was featured in an article published in the Wall Street Journal discussing the California Public Employees’ Retirement System and it decision to stop investing in hedge funds. The article focuses on hedge fund marketing tactics and the sometimes questionable strategies of financial firms – many of which tout their “open architecture” – to market their proprietary hedge funds to clients. However, Mr. Zeuner points out that, rather than “run for the hills”, advisors should re-examine how clients measure risk, what returns they are seeking, and how hedge funds can appropriately fit into a portfolio allocation.
